The Vegreville Centennial Library was full of laughter, singing and early Christmas shopping for pre-school children on Saturday, December 6. This was the 3rd Annual Reindeer Lane celebration event where young shoppers could find that special (and secret) gift for their family members.
Every ½ hour throughout the afternoon, the pre-school teachers Miss Gill and Miss Chang along with their preschool classes took to the stage to sing their favourite Christmas songs for their parents and families, including Jingle Bells, Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer, and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.
Perogies and Jam was pleased to provide musicians for this special annual event. Callina Kirk and the Fiddlin’ Kiddlins (including Isaiah, Malachi, Micah, Suzie, Winnie, Norah, Natalia, Tyra and Elizabeth) performed traditional Christmas songs in fine fiddlin’ form. Songs included Angels We Have Heard on High, Silent Night and Deck the Halls. The Barter Trio (Malachi, Micah, and Mike) from Chipman performed instrumentals (fiddle, ukulele and guitar) including Westfalia Waltz, Tennessee Waltz and O Holy Night. The Off Ramp Boys (Randy, Ralph, Gordon and Rob) turned up the tempo with It All Started with a Child, Winter Wonderland and the Johnny Reid song Today I’m Going to Try to Change the World. Debbie Fedoruk and her singers (Jennifer, Carissa, Jessica and Varvara) performed special songs including Christmas in Killarny and a jazzy tune Jesus, Oh What a Wonderful Child.
It was great to have a visit from our local MLA Jacquie Fenske as she came to town to visit with the children and bring greetings from the Province.
To finish off this celebration, Don Harfield was joined by the pre-school teachers, the children, and the Fedoruk singers to lead in the audience Chistmas Singalong. What a great way for our future generation to have fun, do some shopping and prepare for the Christmas season!
Recognition for the success of the event go to so many, including Josephine Galandy, the Vegreville Library and all the Sponsoring organizations included Flaman Rentals (providing the “privacy tents”), Vegreville & Area Parent Link Center, Community Association for Lasting Success, Vegreville Preschool Association, Vegreville & District Family & Community Support Services, Vegreville Association for Living in Dignity, and Vegreville & Area Family Day Home Program. Thanks also to VALID for providing the free cocoa and cookies. Sandra Antonchuk coordinated the preschool concert, arranging for Santa and Mrs. Santa, the bake sale and of course Perogies and Jam and our volunteers.
