The Studio 14 Arts Society kicked-off its 2016 season with a Spring Celebration with many art enthusiast attending their Annual Art Sale and Auction. Studio 14 is a not for profit visual arts organization in the Beaver region located in Holden along Highway 14 (hence their name…).
Perogies and Jam were pleased to be invited again this year to provide the musical entertainment throughout the evening with performers coming from the local area. It was a nice warm spring evening as entertainers and arts enthusiasts descended on downtown Holden. Ernie Whiteside is the President of Studio 14 and host for the evening.
Debbie Hill (Viking) on guitar and Lisa Cummings (Camrose) playing a harp opened the show at 4:30 pm with instrumental duets. This was wonderfully relaxing music as attendees viewed the paintings and graphic arts displays while chatting with the artists.
Audrey Stefan (Vegreville) is a popular young singer and she sang cover songs accompanied by CD music. Audrey has performed regularly in the Vegreville area at many events including the vEGGfest last year.
Almighty Twang (Tofield) have recently formed and have already started to attract an enthusiastic following. With Mike Klassen on guitar, mandolin & vocals, Chad Montgomery on lead guitar, Pat Dupuis on rhythm guitar and son Denzel Klassen on bass guitar, they are quickly developing a repertoire of country, bluegrass and gospel songs. They performed songs such as Wildwood Flower, Fishin’ in the Dark, Diggin’ up Bones, The Weight, Ocean Front Property, l’ll Fly Away, and I saw the Light.
The Off Ramp Boys (Vegreville) were up next with Randy Kereliuk on acoustic guitar and vocals, Ralph Lange on upright bass, fiddle, and mandolin, Gordon Forbes on electric guitar, and Rob Hughes on drums. They performed many country cover songs including Wrapped Around, Folsom Prison Blues, Cajun Fiddle, Lost Highway, Long Time Gone, Bye Bye Love, The Hockey Song, Wreck of the Old 97, and Copperhead Road. They concluded their set with Wagon Wheel.
Terry Jorden (Sherwood Park) is a singer and keyboardist who has performed with Perogies and Jam for many years now and is a welcome addition to our local music events. Terry sang ballads and music of Van Morrison, Eric Bibb, Brad Paisley, Bill Haley and the Comets and others.
Ernie Whiteside started the announcement of the silent auction at 7:30 pm which was greeted with the enthusiasm of the generous attendees. Many happy folks were awarded treasures of the evening from the auction of which the proceeds were gratefully accepted towards the operation of Studio 14.
Terry Jorden and the Off Ramp Boys then started playing again until the end of the evening when happy souls took their treasures and headed for home.
Thanks go to Randy Kereliuk for providing his sound system and being “sound tech” for the evening. Rob Hughes was the photographer (a.k.a. “shutter bug”). Thanks also to the many volunteers for the evening who made the event fun and relaxing!
Another successful Studio 14 Spring Celebration! Check out the photos below for snapshots of the event.
