Family Day 2013

Family Day MusicPerogies and Jam provided the music for the annual Family Fun Day on February 18 by Vegreville & District Family and Community Support Services. This event included activities at the Social Centre with displays and activities such as a Flight Simulator, Zumba & Yoga, Story Time, a Family Photo Booth and a Food Booth. The highlight for the day at the Social Centre was the music presented by Perogies and Jam from 11 am to 3 pm for approx. 200 parents and children.

Barb Harmatys from Tofield started the music with her version of Our Kind of Love, followed by Fields of Gold and Desperado. Of course, she included There’s Dog Hair in Everything I do which was a favourite for the kids. Wayne Camantigue provided his renditions of Puff the Magic Dragon, Lemon Tree, Mexican Girl and of course the crowd pleaser Speedy Gonzales. The ever popular Lorne Fill sang many family songs including Alexander Beetle, The Cat Came Back and In the Early Morning Rain. Don Harfield and Peter Arnold performed Waltzing Matilda, The Streets of London, an original blues tunes I Can Never Go Home Again and Motherless Child. Rob Hughes provided percussion on many of the songs performed throughout the day.

The singing and dance routine of B Cuz was performed by Brynn and Calista. Their set included the following crowd pleasers: We Are Family, Little Wonders, Hold my Hand, Pray, King of Anything, Mamma Mia, and Ready or Not. Next up were the vocal students of Debbie Fedoruk including Shelby Magnus, Abygale Durie, Faith Swedgen, Ken Timanson, Tami Van Peteghen, and the Sisters routine by Carissa Fedoruk and Bailey Stefan, which was made famous in the 1954 movie White Christmas. Debbie Fedoruk performed Song for the Little Children to close off their set.

The last set of the day included three songs by Rob Hughes accompanied by Lorne Fill and Peter Arnold followed by a couple of Beatle tunes Yesterday and Blackbird by Don Harfield and Peter Arnold. Joining them for the concluding songs Farewell to Nova Scotia and This Land is Your Land were Lorne and Rob. It was great to see so many music fans from the Vegreville community come out to spend time with their children and support this FCSS initiative.
