Perogies and Jam held their Community Gospel night on November 23 which this year was hosted by the St. John Lutheran Church. Don Harfield welcomed the enthusiastic audience of over 150 to this 2nd annual event. Proceeds for this benefit event were given to the Vegreville Community Daycare and the Philippines Disaster Relief Fund which were chosen by the hosting church. Over $ 1600 was raised, and with the Canadian Federal Government matching program for the Philippines Relief, this is expected to increase the total to over $ 2500.

This was a fun evening with musicians and singers bringing a diversity of songs including children’s, folk, gospel, Christmas and contemporary country songs. The audience was treated with new family talent including piano, cello, viola and violin through to the seasoned Country Sunshine band. The most performed song of the night was Silent Night which was very fitting for the host location of the event. Other songs included It Started with a Child, What Child Is This, Gospel Train and Don’t Leave Jesus Off Your Christmas List. The evening concluded with many of the musicians on stage for Amazing Grace. Vegreville is blessed with local musical talent, particularly those who are learning new instruments and enhancing their performance abilities in the midst of an encouraging community.

Pastor Choi extended the hospitality of St. John Lutheran for the audience to enjoy the evening and the refreshments provided afterward. Pastor Crocker expressed appreciation on behalf of the Vegreville Ministerial Association for the community wide event with many of the churches represented in musical performances and in attendance. Debbie Uston, on behalf of the Vegreville Community Daycare, thanked the audience for their generous donations to the Day Care organization, noting that the funds would be very helpful for enhancing their not for profit services to the community.
