Vegreville was privileged to have six-time Olympic athlete Clara Hughes come to Vegreville on Monday, June 2.  Clara has been on a major touring event talking about mental illness in different communities across Canada.  She has traveled 8,000 km so far with another 4,000 km to go on her 110 day bicycle ride before she reaches Ottawa.   Clara is raising awareness in an effort to draw attention to her message that mental health stigmas need to be stamped out.

Perogies and Jam was privileged to provide musical entertainment to a crowd of over 400 in the Vegreville Arena prior to Clara arriving at 6:30 pm.  Among the many dance and musical performers, there were:

• Vegreville Pentecostal Church youth group
• Rachel Melenka
• Leeland Bachelet
• Paul Fike
• Randy Kereliuk and the Off Ramp Boys

Everyone appreciated the bar-be-cue supplied by generous community sponsors and thanks go to the Vegreville Fire Department volunteers for organizing and serving up the food.  Thanks to everyone who came out for this important occasion!
