I was reminded of the Rogers and Hammerstein classic song “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning” and it stayed beautiful all day long!  This was probably the best Street Market in recent history and certainly for the past three years – best weather, great music, lots of folks downtown and happy street vendors.  Musicians came from Vegreville and the surrounding community to provide a diversity of fun and music.  What could be better?

We set up the tent at 8:30 am and got the sound system in place by 9:30 am.  After sound checks, we had live music filling the downtown starting at 10 am.  Starting off was the Barter Trio (Malachi, Micah and dad Mike) from nearby Chipman and their infectious fiddle, ukulele and guitar playing with the occasional tap dancing by Micah added for good measure.  Don Harfield (with the help of Gordon Forbes on a couple of songs) took the stage to perform several humorous songs including “The Last Saskatchewan Pirate”.  Carissa Fedoruk and Bailey Stefan sang with the accompaniment of Debbie Fedoruk on keyboard followed by Carissa on a couple of songs accompanying herself on the keyboard.  Gordon Forbes and his friend Ron Barr (Red Deer) delighted the gathering crowd with several original songs and lively antics.

Over the lunch hour, the street was becoming quite busy and the Off Ramp Boys (Randy Kereliuk on guitar & vocals, Ralph Lange of fiddle, bass & mandolin, Gordon Forbes on electric guitar, and Rob Hughes on drums) engaged the crowd with popular country tunes including “Wagon Wheel” and “Three Wooden Crosses”.  Terry Jorden (on keyboard and vocals) came from Sherwood Park and captivated the crowd with the fun “Big Ass Garage Sale” and familiar songs.  Wayne Camantigue (on guitar and vocals) sang several songs including “Speedy Gonzales”.

As the afternoon progressed, SaskaTUNE Jam (Debbie Hill from Viking & Connie Marcinkoski from Bruce) played guitar and sang several gospel and country songs.  Roger Harrison from Holden performed several original songs followed by the Off Ramp Boys to finish off the afternoon.  By this time, it was already 4pm and it was time to wrap up and for many of the musicians move over to the Train Station for the evening.
