Family Day 2015 – February 16

It was a great day for family fun in Vegreville!

After an amazing pancake breakfast sponsored by the Town of Vegreville and the County of Minburn, attendees were treated all day to live music provided by Perogies and Jam and family fun activities including a Bouncy House, face painting, a flight simulator, Budda Boards and a DIY photo booth.

Peter Arnold accompanied by Gordon Forbes on guitar and Rob Hughes on Drums opened the music event at 10 am with In Canada, Twist and Shout and the Hockey Song as the breakfast was concluding. Next up, Randy Kereliuk accompanied by Gordon Forbes on guitar and Rob Hughes on drums performed songs including Wrapped Around, Three Wooden Crosses, Country Roads, Folsom Prison Blues, Sweet Home Alabama, and I Just Wanna Dance With You. Lorne Fill performed original instrumentals on the guitar followed by Grandma’s Feather Bed, My Grandfather’s Clock, Cecilia, and others.

The Barter Family (Malachi on fiddle, Micah on ukulele, and father Mike on guitar) from Chipman performed crowd pleasing fiddle tunes along with Micah’s celtic style dancing. Debbie Fedoruk and her singing students continued the performances with Jessica Clough (Mairi’s Wedding), Tristan Neil (I Don’t Want to Live on the Moon & The Gypsy Rover), April Siggelkow (Ice Cream from “Anne of Green Gables”), Bailey Stefan (Dreams), Carissa Fedoruk (One Tin Soldier), and Bailey Stefan & Carissa Fedoruk (I Won’t Say I’m in Love from Hercules).

Young Shade Clark took the stage accompanied by Malachi and Mike Barter with familiar fiddle tunes including Ramona Waltz, Cat Scratch Reel, St. Anne’s Reel, Devil’s Dream, Redwing, To the ladies, Irish Washer Women and Chinese Breakdown. The afternoon came to a close at 2 pm with Randy Kereliuk, Gordon Forbes, Rob Hughes, Lorne Fill and Peter Arnold performing.

Thanks go to Family and Community Social Services, MODEL, the Rotary Club and local Cadets for all these activities. There were over 300 attendees at this event. Much appreciation also go to Randy Kereliuk as MC and sound technician for the day, Rob Hughes on drums and Anna Tomyn for taking photos!

Family Day in Vegreville has become a family tradition! Thanks for coming out to join in all the fun!
