June 13 Vegreville Street Market

Veg Street MarketThis was the first Street Market for this year, and vendors, residents, visitors and musicians came to enjoy good music, food and friendship in the heart of Vegreville.

Starting off at 10 am, the Off Ramp Boys, affectionately known as the ORB consisting of Randy Kereliuk, Ralph Lange, Rob Hughes and Gordon Forbes, got the music off to a great start with music filling the air throughout the downtown area. ORB sang favourite songs including: Long Time Gone, Wrapped Around, Big River and I’ll Fly Away/Will the Circle Be Unbroken.

Roger Harrison came from Holden to sing songs including: Romance Flats, Rum and Whatever, and Wild Horses. Don Harfield along with Ralph Lange and Rob Hughes sang several songs including: Alberta, Summer Time and Those Were The Days.

The Barter Trio (Malachi, Micah and Mike) from Chipman played toe tapping fiddle tunes with Malachi on fiddle, Micah on Ukulele (and wooden spoons) and Mike on 12 string guitar. Cassidy Zahar from Bellis, played guitar and sang songs from her first CD including I’m an Old Cowhand, Country Roads and a new song destined for her upcoming CD called Winter Finds Me. Bailey Stefan joined Cassidy for several duets and then followed up with songs including Hold Back The River, Back to Black, Pumped Up Kicks and How To Be A Heartbreaker.

The cool misty weather periodically turned to rain showers during the day, however the musicians were able to keep dry inside the new tent and keep the music going all day. We are a hardy bunch, vendors, attendees and musicians alike, aren’t we?!

Special thanks go to the Vegreville Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Vegreville for organizing and promoting the Street Markets. We look forward to two more this summer, on July 18 and September 12. Street markets are always fun, no matter the weather!
