2016 Volunteers Appreciation Breakfast

Vegreville loves volunteers, and we recognize and celebrate that volunteers are the roots of a strong community!

This was the message at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast on April 16 at the Sunshine Club from 9 a.m. to 11:30. Perogies and Jam was pleased to provide the music and performance of the Fiddlin’ Kiddlins at this community event, and the Sunshine Club provided their fantastic venue!

There were pancakes and sausages for about 200 attendees throughout the morning. Jessica Littlewood, MLA and Myron Hayduk, Mayor of Vegreville brought greetings and were very supportive of the level of volunteering in Vegreville. Lisa Topilko, Volunteer Vegreville is to be congratulated for her terrific enthusiasm for volunteers and her boundless energy throughout the year. Thank you Lisa for making this event so much fun!

Callina Kirk and the Fiddlin’ Kiddlins provided live fiddle music at 10 a.m. and were a highlight of the event. Perogies and Jam provided the sound system and selected recorded music between announcements and the live music. Rob Hughes and Reece Kermode were the photographers. The Vegreville 4-H Multi-Club brought games, Vegreville Transportation Services Society (VTSS) and the Lions Club provided the cooks, ATCO Electric & ATCO Gas employees pitched in as servers, Vegreville Hospitals Auxiliary Society did the clean-up, and many local organizations donated door prizes. Other residents served as volunteers at this great event to thank volunteers!

Family & Community Support Services (FCSS) provides preventive services to the residents of the Vegreville area through Programs and Services including Volunteer Vegreville, Sizzlin’ Summer Day Camp , Meals on Wheels, Volunteer Income Tax, Subsidized Housekeeping and resources to families and Newcomers to the community. FCSS also manages the Parent Link Centre, Family Day Homes, the M.O.D.E.L. Project and participates in other initiatives and projects in the town and in the western portion of the County of Minburn. The strength of a community is often indicated by the level of volunteerism and the Town of Vegreville is certainly blessed with so many volunteers.
