It was a warm summer day and the vintage cars were on display in and around The Garage. This was the Grand Opening of The Garage and car enthusiasts from around town and beyond all came out to celebrate this grand occasion!

Perogies and Jam were pleased to have local musicians perform throughout the afternoon. As is often the case at this time of year, storm clouds frequented the day and sprinkled their favours on the event and then passed on. This didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of MC Don Harfield, the performers, nor the crowd as they convened under the front porch or inside the showroom during these brief moments.

Starting off the afternoon, were the Barter Duo (Malachi on fiddle and Mike on 12 string guitar) as they got the toes taping and the crowd warmed up. Young Shade Clark (on fiddle and Mike Barter on guitar) then followed up playing medleys of classic fiddle tunes.

Deputy Mayor, Adam Kozakiewicz was on hand to present a congratulatory plaque to owner Myron Hayduk on this special occasion followed by Myron Hayduk’s expression of appreciation for everyone coming out to help his family celebrate the Grand Opening. It was great to see our local MLA Jessica Littlewood mingling in the crowd.

Audrey Stefan kicked the music up a notch with her renditions of popular rock songs. She is releasing her first single recording on Thursday with others to follow in the very near future. Country Sunshine (Norm, Pearl & Brian) then lived up to their name as the sun shone down on the happy crowd.

Peter Arnold and Don Harfield performed several folk songs including “Those Were The Days” with words aptly speaking to the “classic cars” in keeping with the theme of the event. Kaley Martin (Vocals and guitar) and Beren Hollins (electric guitar) were up next and did a great job on “Sweet Home Alabama” and other country songs.

Lorne Fill closed off the afternoon with original instrumental guitar tunes and finished with singing “Grandma’s Feather Bed” while playing his banjo.

Special thanks go to Rob Hughes for taking photos today. Also, Neil Collins and Sheldon of Pro-Mobile did a great job of providing lights and sound for the event! Destination Gardens were on hand with great food and the Red Cup Distillery provided samples of their “becoming famous” Wheat Shine.

As the afternoon wound down, the evening geared up and the Give ‘Em Hell Boys took to the stage.

Myron and Rhonda Hayduk were wonderful hosts and their family were all involved in making this Grand Opening a huge success. Amy Hayduk was a terrific organizer. Congratulations Hayduks on The Garage!
