Perogies and Jam was pleased to provide the evening musical entertainment for the Lions Club regional district meeting at the Vegreville Social Centre on November 4, 2016. Representatives from across Alberta gathered to conduct business at their Annual General Meeting over the weekend. There were approx. 120 attendees travelling on this unseasonably warm day to Vegreville.
Starting off the evening, The Barter (Mike and Malachi) duo from Chipman performed traditional country songs such as “I’ll Fly Away” and several fiddle instrumentals. Don Harfield (vocals, guitar) and Liam Bonser (flute, penny whistle and backing vocals) performed several songs including “The Times They Are a Changin’”, a new original song “Food Waste” inspired by recent news articles, and “Amazing Grace”.
Randy Kereliuk (vocals & guitar) and Rob Hughes (drums & backing vocals) performed “Bye Bye Love”, “I Just Want to Dance with You”, “Long Time Gone”, and “Country Roads” with Darlene (harmony vocals) and Malachi (fiddle). Darlene Thibault (vocals & guitar) accompanied by the Barter Duo, Jim Lambert (bass guitar), and Rob Hughes (drums) performed several songs including “Oh Lonesome Me”, Making Believe”, and “A Picture of Me Without You”.
The new Vegreville based band, The Wednesdays were the highlight of the evening performing country rock for the rest of the evening. Starting off with newer songs, “Wheat Kings” and “Burning House”, then progressing through several classic favourites including “She’s In Love With the Boy”, “Wagon Wheel”, and “Jolene”. The Wednesdays consist of Kaley Martin (vocals), Beren Hollins (lead guitar), Jim Lambert (electric bass guitar), Josh Fell (rhythm guitar) and Ian Brown (electric drums). They finished their 50 minute set with “Sweet Home Alabama”.
