Perogies and Jam was pleased to contribute to the Family Day celebrations at the Social Centre on February 19, 2018. There were over 300 attending the pancake breakfast co-hosted by the Town of Vegreville and the County of Minburn. All proceeds were provided to the Vegreville Food Bank.

Throughout the day, there were activities all around town including family bowling, hay rides, swimming, skating, floor curling and a road hockey game. At the Social Centre, there were Bouncey Houses to delight the children and Country 106 was broadcasting live during the morning.

Perogies and Jam started off at 8:30 am with recorded music as the sound system was being set up and folks were sitting down to a plate full of pancakes, eggs, and sausages. Coffee and juice were flowing to keep up with the eager appetites. Extra tables and chairs were brought in to provide enough seating for all the hungry folks coming in!

Emcee Don Harfield welcomed the attendees to live music starting at 9:00 am. With Randy Kereliuk on acoustic guitar and Rob Hughes on drums, Randy performed Country Roads, Bye Bye Love and I Just Want to Dance With You, followed by Everything that Glitters is Not Gold, A Picture of You and finished with The Gambler.

Our local poet, Mary Leonty has a passion for nature in and around Vegreville which she describes so well in her poems. Today, she recited recent poems entitled Tiny Bird, From the Hilltop and Great White Goose.

Hannah Gazso, from Ardrossan, was the winner of the 2017 Country 106 Star Search competition and has been recording a CD which she hopes to be releasing soon. Hannah on acoustic guitar performed a great set including Walking After Midnight, Bubbly, Millionaire and Have You Ever Seen the Rain. She concluded her set with Joy Parade, Ho Hey and Happy People.

Reverent Blues consists of Pastor Steve Williams on electric guitar, his sons Logan on electric bass and Ethan on drums. They served up a great set of blues tunes including Gotta Serve Somebody, The Devil’s in the Phone Booth, Hideaway (instrumental), the Christian Party Song and Mary Has a Little Lamb.

Debbie Fedoruk on acoustic piano and her music students added to the diversity of the music this morning with Odelia Rayavarapu singing The Market of San Jose, Chelsea Malabanan singing I Wonder and Abigail Bellamkonda singing Happiness (Charlie Brown Musical). These were followed by Megan Hoyteniuk singing Burning Gold and Shelby Magnus singing White Horse. Debbie completed the set with What a Wonderful World and 40 Little Birdies.

The Werezuk Family were up next with Meghan singing A Thousand Years with Rod on harmony vocals. Alyssa sang Girl on Fire accompanied by iPhone soundtrack followed by Dear Future Husband. Alyssa and Meghan completed their set together with Love Story.

Val Thibault, from Viking, on acoustic guitar performed country songs including Travelling Soldier (Dixie Chicks), Coat of Many Colours (Dolly Parton) and Home (Daughty). Wayne Camantigue followed up with Lemon Tree, April Come She Will, My Valentine, and the crowd favourite Speedy Gonzales.

Roger Harrison, from Holden, on acoustic guitar performed Blame It On Me, Romance Flats, and The Gate with his usual theatrical flair. He concluded his set with Rum & Whatever and Spirits.

Abby K, from Tofield, on acoustic guitar brought the music performances to a close with her set of 8 songs starting with Budapest, Stay With Me, Bob Dylan’s Blowing In The Wind, and Riptide. She sang her original song Hey! and followed with All I want and Jolene. She concluded her set with Home. She is recording a CD which she expects will be released soon. Percussionists Rob Hughes (drums) and Denver Balid (cajon) accompanied Abby on all her songs.
